7 Ways to Wear the Infinity Scarf

December 2, 2010 • By Roselle

We received a question via Twitter the other day from a reader (@yettadmb1) who wanted a few tips on how to wear her very large scarf. Here’s the exact question she sent: “I have this very big scarf that is closed all the way around & I don’t know how to wear it. It’s very bulky if wrapped”. She sent this picture over for reference:

From this perspective, the item looks like a very long piece of knitted infinity scarf. Circle scarves, infinity scarves, tube scarves, eternity scarves, or however you may want to call it, all have one thing in common – they are round like a ring with the ends stitched together. The ways you can wear depend on the length and the width of the scarf. For demonstrative purposes, here are three different infinity scarves with varying sizes:

As we mentioned earlier, the ways you can wear it will depend on the the size. If it is long and wide enough (ergo large enough), you have the option to:

1. Wrap it around your neck twice or three times depending on your preference (see 1st picture below), OR,

2. Wrap it twice and then spread the layers over your shoulders (second image):

3. Use it as a head wrap or hood by wrapping it twice or thrice (depending on length) then pulling one layer over your head:

4. Use it as a cape by wrapping it twice and then pulling one layer over one shoulder and then the other layer on your other shoulder:

5. Use it as a bolero by inserting your left arm through one end and inserting the right arm through the other end:

6. Use it as a vest by following the same steps as the way you’d wear it as a bolero, except you will need to wear it with the fabric gathered on your nape instead of covering your whole back:

7. Use it as a figure 8 top by inserting your whole body through the scarf, twisting one end and then putting your head through it; you can keep it on your head like a hood or around your neck like a halter:

You can even use the infinity scarf as a skirt or a tube dress. The brand American Apparel even came up with their own guide on how to wear the infinity scarf. Here’s a copy of that guide. It is a bit dated but it is still quite useful:

If you’re patient and creative enough, you can actually come up with your own set of looks not listed here. The seven (7) I’ve written above are basically the easiest to apply. Hopefully, reading this post will give you more reasons to shop for infinity scarves :)
